DOCX to TIFF Transformation FAQ
At what resolution / DPI does the TIFF render?
+
Pages are rendered at 150 DPI, which is crisp on screen and fine for most printing. There is no DPI setting for DOCX to TIFF. For 72 or 300 DPI, convert the DOCX to PDF first, then use the PDF to TIFF converter, which has a Resolution setting. DOCX is Office Open XML, the format Word has produced by default since 2007 and an ISO standard since 2008.
Can I convert just specific pages of the DOCX to TIFF?
+
No. There is no page setting for DOCX files, so every page is rendered as its own TIFF and you keep the ones you need. If you only want the first page, convert the DOCX to PDF and then use the PDF to TIFF converter, whose Pages menu offers First page only.
Can I use the TIFF images as previews or thumbnails?
+
Yes. The first page of a DOCX rendered as a TIFF makes a good document thumbnail or preview card. Every page is converted here, so take the first TIFF from the set, or convert the DOCX to PDF and use the PDF to TIFF converter with First page only to get a single file.
Will the TIFF be searchable or selectable text?
+
No — rasterizing the DOCX to TIFF turns text into pixels, so the image is not searchable or selectable. That is intentional: image output is for pixel-exact visual sharing. If you need editable or searchable output, convert the DOCX to DOCX or keep it as text instead.
Is my DOCX private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded DOCX files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted TIFF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
How long does DOCX to TIFF take for a long document?
+
It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
Why does my TIFF look pixelated when zoomed in?
+
You are viewing a raster image, so zooming past its native resolution shows the pixels. A DOCX renders at a fixed 150 DPI here. For a sharper TIFF, convert the DOCX to PDF and use the PDF to TIFF converter at 300 DPI.
