MPG to JPG Transformation FAQ

How do I extract frames from an MPG video as JPG images?
+
Upload the MPG and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one JPG from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a JPG image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. MPG is the same MPEG program stream as .mpeg — the three-letter extension is a DOS-era truncation, not a different format. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Same resolution as the MPG video — a 1080p source produces 1920×1080 JPG frames; a 4K source produces 3840×2160 JPG frames. Resize after extraction if you need smaller thumbnails.
Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 JPG images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.
HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the MPG as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR MPG can look flat or washed out as a JPG. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
One at a time. Single Frame takes one time in seconds (for example 83 for 1:23) and saves that frame as a JPG. There is no field for a list of times, so run the conversion again for each extra timestamp.
Yes. Uploaded MPG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted JPG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Almost always motion blur from the source MPG (the camera was moving when the frame was captured). Try picking timestamps from static scenes, or extract several adjacent frames and choose the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize sharpness.
No. The converter has no scene detection and no one-per-second mode: it saves either a single frame at the second you enter or every frame. For one image per scene, extract single frames at the times where the scenes change.
Yes, subject to whatever licence governs the source MPG content. The format change adds no claim — we add no watermark and claim no licence on the JPG output.

MPG

MPG is the same MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video as .mpeg, just the shortened extension DOS-era software required.

JPG

JPG files use lossy compression optimized for photographs, delivering small file sizes while maintaining visual fidelity.
